GJC conducts diplomatic tour in London

Global Journalism Council (GJC) President Mehmet Ali Dim, together with GJC UK Representative Vatan Öz, met in London with Turkish Ambassador Ertaş, Consul General Ulusoy, TRNC Ambassador Mullahasan, FPA executives, Turkish-origin MP Çalışkan, and Turkish-origin Baroness Hussein -Ece to discuss the future of journalism, international media relations, and opportunities for cooperation.
Mehmet Ali Dim, President of the Global Journalism Council (GJC), held official meetings in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, on behalf of the GJC.
Dim began his meetings by visiting Turkish Ambassador to London O. Koray Ertaş. Dim, who was accompanied by GJC Representative to the United Kingdom Vatan Öz, published a message regarding the meeting, saying, “We informed our esteemed Ambassador about the work of our council and presented him with a commemorative plaque and our Global Media magazine. I would like to express my gratitude to the Ambassador for his kind reception.”
CONSUL GENERAL AND TRNC AMBASSADOR
Dim and Öz also visited the Turkish Consul General in London, Senior Ambassador Dr. Hasan Ulusoy, and received information from the consul general about the Turkish community in the UK and relations between the two countries. Dim and Öz also visited the TRNC Representative Office in the UK, where they met with Ambassador Aysan Mullahasan and exchanged information about Turkish Cypriots living in the UK and issues related to Cyprus.
MEETING WITH THE FPA PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVES
Dim met with Vasil Hristov, President of the Foreign Press Association (FPA), one of the most important journalism professional organizations in the UK, and Deborah Bonetti, its General Director, at The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) building as part of his London contacts. The meeting, led by GJC UK Representative Vatan Öz, involved an exchange of views on the future of the journalism profession, international media relations, and possible areas of cooperation.
VISIT TO TURKISH MP IN THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT
Mehmet Ali Dim and Vatan Öz also visited Turkish-born British MP Nesil Çalışkan at the historic British Parliament building in London. Çalışkan, a Labour Party MP, provided information about the new and important responsibilities she has assumed following her appointment as Royal Palace Controller (Government Group Leader) on behalf of the royal government.
Dim shared information about GJC ‘s international work and vision in the media field and presented Çalışkan with the Global Media Magazine and a commemorative plaque.
In his social media message, Dim emphasized that Nesil Çalışkan, despite her young age, holds a senior position within the Whips Office in the House of Commons and carries important responsibilities within the government, such as ensuring the smooth running of the party and coordinating the legislative process.
MEETING WITH TURKISH BARONESS IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS
GJC President Mehmet Ali Dim and Vatan Öz also visited Baroness Meral Hussein-Ece, a member of the House of Lords of the historic British Parliament, who is of Turkish Cypriot origin. Dim and Öz, who was appointed as a Life Peer (Baroness) in 2010 as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, discussed matters concerning the UK, Turkey, Cyprus, and GJC.
CONTRIBUTION TO INTERNATIONAL MEDIA DIPLOMACY
GJC President Mehmet Ali Dim stated that the contacts in London were extremely productive in terms of strengthening relations with international press organizations and developing new opportunities for cooperation in the media field. Dim said, “I would like to thank our representative, the successful journalism Vatan Öz, for organizing our extremely productive program in London.”
