GJC to organize award ceremony and exhibition in New York
The Global Journalism Council (GJC) will organize an event in the United States of America for the first time this year to support Turkey’s public diplomacy activities, to ensure media solidarity between countries, to increase the visibility and reputation of Turkish media in the international arena, and to announce Turkey’s messages of friendship, peace and cultural interaction to the world through journalism.
AWARD CEREMONY AND EXHIBITION
On Saturday, September 13, 2025, the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey will host the “International Media Friendship Awards Ceremony” at the Turkish House in New York. The award ceremony will bring together important names from the world of media, diplomacy, culture and civil society. Within the scope of the event, on the same day and at the same venue, the Sivas Republic of Turkey will also host the “America in Turkey: 1910-1970”, Sivas Cumhuriyet University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sefer Darıcı’s private archive will also be exhibited for the first time. Curated by Istinye University Faculty Member Dr. Özgenur Reyhan Güler, the exhibition will be on view at the New York Turkish House until September 20, as well as
September 21-27 at the Paterson Museum in New Jersey,
The exhibition will continue to meet its visitors at Awita New York Studio exhibition hall on October 7-12.
EXHIBITION IN ISTANBUL ON SEPTEMBER 4-8
Before New York, the exhibition will first open at Istinye University’s exhibition hall in Istanbul Vadi between September 4-8, 2025 with a ceremony to be held at 13.30 on September 4. On the same day, MedyaLab students will also attend the exhibition due to the start of the MadyaLab training to be organized by GJC within the scope of the EU project under the roof of Istinye University.
A FIRST IN THE USA
This important organization, which will be held under the coordination of GJC President Mehmet Ali Dim, GJC Vice President İsmail Bayazıt, GJC Disseminated Media Council President Buse Biçer Akbaş and GJC Vice President Nalan Yazgan, GJC US Representative and İHA US Correspondent Dilek Kaya and Turkish Consul General in New York Ahmet Yazal, aims to be a cultural diplomacy move that reinforces Turkey’s soft power. The project aims not only to recognize journalistic achievements but also to contribute to the establishment of sustainable and trusting relations with international media representatives based on mutual understanding.
During the ceremony, US-based journalism and communication awards will be presented in different categories. In the field of journalism; Turkish Journalism Honor Award, International Media Friendship Award, Young Journalism Award, Turkish-American Media Cooperation Award and Diaspora Media Award will be presented. In the diplomacy and communication categories, Turkish-American Cultural Diplomacy Award, Communication in Intercultural Dialogue Award, Turkish-American Civil Society Cooperation Award and Young Diaspora Cultural Ambassador Award will be presented. In addition, the Behzat Barış Honor Award will be presented for the first time this year in the special category.
IMPORTANT NAMES WILL ATTEND
The ceremony is expected to be attended by prominent figures from the media, academia and business world from Turkey and the United States, as well as civil society organizations, representatives of diplomatic missions, government officials and many guests from the culture and arts community.
The project aims to draw attention to the power of media and communication to build friendships and to contribute to making Turkey more visible and effective in the international community. It also emphasizes the potential of young journalists and diaspora members to represent Turkey through the media.
