GLOBAL JOURNALISM COUNCIL WITHIN THE SCOPE OF PUBLIC DIPLOMACY ACTIVITIES

Public diplomacy, which is known to have been used since the 17th century but adopts the view that it is important for states to be powerful in the world political arena, to interact with the international public opinion rather than just creating war and colonial order, entered the literature in a relatively recent time.

Public Diplomacy is the whole of the activities to influence the thoughts of the public. Public diplomacy, which has been used effectively recently, has taken over traditional diplomacy activities and has become the most important field of study in the international activities of states. In the process of Turkey’s public diplomacy activities, it has been clearly seen that the contribution of the journalist to the process is undeniable.

In addition to the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, TRT, which carries out public diplomacy activities in the context of journalism, making international broadcasts and opening new foreign channels are among the moves that can be considered successful for public diplomacy.

Journalists working at home and abroad as the directors, members and representatives of the GJC are engaged in activities all over the world and Turkey in order to carry out national lobbying activities and contribute to public diplomacy.

The Global Journalism Council, which was established by presidential decree, differs from other media organizations and associations with its representative offices in 81 provinces of Turkey and 57 countries abroad, with its public diplomacy activities carried out on behalf of our country all over the world, with its complementary structure.

It acts on behalf of the public interest with its effective and competent activities in order to transform it into added value for the national interests of its country on the axis of ethical values. Global Journalism Council, which has the mission of serving the benefit of the country with public diplomacy, which is as efficient as classical diplomacy in the foreign policies of the states, provides support to the negotiations, official statements and diplomatic statements involving Turkey through its journalists from around the world.

In addition to the public diplomacy activities it carries out abroad, GJC conducts public diplomacy activities by hosting foreign journalists in our country. GJC, together with the Alanya Russian Culture and Education Association, brought together Russian-speaking and Russian-language journalists, who are members of the World Russian Media Council (WARP), with Turkish journalists within the scope of public diplomacy.

The event, previously held in New York, USA, was hosted by T.C. It took place in our country under the auspices of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

The GJC met with Theo Koll, the Berlin Coordinator of the German television channel ZDF, held talks between Turkish and German media workers on public diplomacy activities and decided to undertake a task to enlighten the Turkish and German society about the racist terrorist attacks against Turks in Hanau. has prevailed.

While the joint work with the TRNC weakened the hand of the Greek Cypriot lobbies, mutual visits and cooperation meetings were held to improve good relations with Georgia. Journalists from Kazakhstan were hosted in Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World in 2022, and activities that would contribute to public diplomacy continued.
